Day 2

It started at the pentagon

But we couldn't take pictures. We saw the 9/11 memorial and had a guided tour with a member of the Honor Guard through over a mile of hallways and staircases. We then treated the kids to a ride on the subway.

Then we went to Arlington Memorial Cemetery where the Colrain Sixth grade proudly laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

We made a quick stop for lunch and the onto the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of American History.

We tried to get to the Statue of Einstein, but that area was closed and so we continued onto the JFK Memorial Center for the Performing Arts to see a performance of modern dance.

After the dance, a quick dinner, some souvenir shopping, and then getting 16 exhausted and excited and exuberant Sixth graders to bed.

And we'll do it all again tomorrow.

Yesterday, after we arrived, we had a picnic dinner at the base of Washington Monument.

We visited the World War II Memorial

We saw the Korean War Memorial:

And we ended the day with the Lincoln Memorial and the kids reciting the Gettysburg Address.
